The AI-powered Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) solution developed by Wadhwani AI (AI unit of LEHS) aims to address the foundational literacy challenges faced in low-resource public education systems. It is an end-to-end assessment, diagnostic, and remediation solution designed to embed directly into existing state-mandated digital education platforms. This system-level integration ensures rapid adoption and scale, and prevents app-fatigue among teachers.

The ORF solution operates through four integrated modules to transform classroom instruction:

1. Assessment Automation: The solution digitises and automates time-consuming manual reading assessment. Using standard smartphones that function even in low-connectivity environments, teachers record students reading text aloud. The solution utilises Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) models exclusively fine-tuned on local children's speech to analyse the recording with high precision in rural classrooms across regional dialects.
   
2. AI Diagnostics: Instead of relying on generic grade-level tests, the AI instantly processes the student's audio to generate granular reading diagnostics, such as Correct Words Per Minute (CWPM), word and varna/sound accuracy, and correct, incorrect, missed, and extra words. Based on these specific learning gaps, the solution automatically groups students into skill-based cohorts (i.e., Decoding, Blending, Chunking and Fluent). This maps directly to Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodologies, providing teachers with exact insights into each child's proficiency.
   
3. Targeted Remediation: To bridge the gap between diagnosis and action, the ORF solution is designed to provide cohort-specific remediation advisories, activities, and lesson plans. These resources are being co-developed with the State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), implementation partners, and pedagogical experts to ensure alignment with official curriculum frameworks, learning outcomes, and classroom realities.
   
4. Insights and Analytics Dashboard: The solution consolidates data into actionable dashboards for State educational administrators providing visibility at a school, block and district level thus empowering the authorities to monitor foundational literacy goals and make evidence-based decisions.
