POVIR Educational Platform by EdCamp Ukraine NGO
The POVIR Educational Platform [www.povir.in.ua] is designed to address learning losses by supporting children's academic progress and personal development simultaneously. It provides individualised and small-group learning across key subjects, combining effective international methodologies with a strong focus on intrinsic motivation and social-emotional learning.
The EdCamp Ukraine team designed an effective pedagogy and mentoring model focused on nurturing a childʼs intrinsic motivation. Students begin with six short (30-minute) sprints to tackle urgent learning challenges in selected subjects. After initial success, they can move to a Marathon — 10 intensive sessions for deeper subject mastery. In parallel with subject learning, students have one-on-one sessions and personalised support from SEL educators. This distinctive feature of the platform helps children develop social and emotional skills essential for well-being and lifelong success.
Motivation is also reinforced through gamification: students earn ‘achieves’ (badges) for progress in social, emotional and other skills, ‘vircoins’ (digital rewards) for completing challenges. By fostering confidence, connection, and a sense of safety, POVIR helps children overcome educational gaps, build trusting relationships with educators, and engage in learning as part of a supportive community.
Further development of POVIR will enable the platform to reach more children across Ukraine and support the recovery of Ukrainian education. In the longer term, EdCamp Ukraine plans to transfer POVIR to the state for nationwide use, building on the successful example of EdWay, a professional learning platform developed by EdCamp Ukraine and transferred free of charge to the Ukrainian government. This model demonstrates how solutions developed by civil society can become part of the public education system.
POVIR also has potential beyond Ukraine. Learning gaps, declining motivation and the need to strengthen social cohesion are challenges faced by many education systems. Because the platform is based on widely applicable approaches, including personalised learning, intrinsic motivation and social-emotional learning, its model can be adapted to different national contexts. This could make POVIR useful not only for addressing learning gaps, but also for supporting young people’s well-being, confidence and connection with others.
