A powerful new platform to celebrate, recognise and share the stories of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference to their communities.
The World’s Best School Prizes identify, recognise, and celebrate schools’ leading and innovative practices that have had a real impact on the lives of their students and of their community.
By doing this, we seek to democratise school-based expertise by providing schools with an opportunity to share and celebrate their achievements and contributions to wider societal progress, whilst catalysing a global grassroots learning community of schools that share their stories so that they can inspire others.
Through these Prizes, embracing a bottom-up approach, we aim to foster and spur system-level improvement, and inspire change around the world.
Potential. Purpose. Progress. New rules for schools. What does being the best mean to you?
For us, schools that make the grade are the ones that make a difference.
They prepare for the future by shaping it – out in the world, not just inside an exam hall.
They show us what they can do by getting out there and doing it. They work sustainably, make whole families healthier and bring communities closer. They create a ripple of change that spreads from schools to society, making both stronger.
The best schools follow a new kind of rule book. And the world is all the better for it.
Because strong schools make strong societies.
The World’s Best School Prizes are awarded to schools that have developed expertise in five key areas, that can prove and demonstrate outstanding systems, practises and performance that impact the lives of their students and of the whole community.
We will award the winning schools with a share in the $250,000 total prize money. Thus, each winning school will be awarded with $50,000, to keep improving their work and strengthening their school and community.
We believe that schools should be celebrated. The role they play in, not just, the development of learners, but also their contribution to wider societal progress should be recognised and showcased.
The pandemic has clearly shown us that despite the total absence of systems planning or leadership, schools and their communities have led from the front. So, it is they who have shown us what’s possible, it is they who have protected our children, it is they who have pivoted towards adopting and using new technologies and approaches to ensure education continuity.
So why not trust them to lead the reform of education systems by the power of their own example? The World’s Best School Prizes seek to reframe the discussion on how we can improve the performance of schools to include attributes that have worked in many different contexts – an alternative path to systemic reform that is bottom-up.
In doing so, we make a decision to take a bottom up, grassroots approach to education reform, one in which the school by the powerful exposition of their achievement inspires others to undertake the same journey to excellence.
